The project is divided into six work packages:
WP1 Project Management
The objective of the work package is to facilitate the successful completion of the project according to the proposal and the work plan, and in accordance with the guidance from the managing bodies.
The project management is responsible for the overall project and its deliverables, and reports to the national authorities, the managing bodies, and to ERANET. The work includes financial management, audits, meeting organization, preparation of minutes of meetings, IPR management, risk management, quality control, and reporting.
WP2 Requirements Collection
Understanding the possibilities and requirements for improved efficiency in the studied freight corridors, comparison with the state-of-the-art, prioritization of improvement possibilities, thereby finding the correct level of generalization to make results applicable to both the studied cases and to similar freight corridors.
This work package aims to deeply understand the two cases that are in focus in CO2REOPT. The WP is divided into two tasks, even though the work content and the aim of these two tasks are very similar. In this WP the collaboration with the industry partners of the consortium is crucial. The results from WP2 are input to WP3 and WP4, in which research and development towards the goals set up in WP2 is performed.
WP3 Rail Transport Planning
The WP is devoted to the development of optimization algorithms for robust timetabling and train dispatching. In this Work Packages we focus on two major sub-problems, namely the timetabling problem and the train dispatching problem.
WP4 Synchromodal Chain Planning
The design and implementation of a prototype decision tool that supports the design of optimal cross-
border synchromodal transport chains, which features parallel transport routes, and which aims at a high utilization, seamless transshipments, and high frequent services, while being competitive.
WP5 Integration and Evaluation
This WP seeks to integrate and evaluate project results, especially from WP 3 and 4. The success is measured in three stages: (i) a computational evaluation of the WP’s usability, (ii) the real economic impacts, and (iii) finally to what degree the results have been implemented by the companies involved.
WP6 Dissemination and Implementation
To ensure timely scientific and professional dissemination and exploitation of project results through transfer of technology. The main exploitation goals are that CO2REOPT will a) enable the transfer of at least one of the two innovations to partners, and b) positively impact the processes at all participating partners.
